I like you because of your Personality…. Seriously, the personality is an element of a person that makes us special and unique. So it’s not brain science to understand that the engagement session is the only opportunity to truly communicate the couple’s personality. You can only do so much for wedding portraits, so do your best to ensure your engagement session communicates the real you. As you can see from my ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS , I pride myself in creating unique engagement pictures that not only communicate their personalities but their love story.

Ok let’s get down to Personality identification.

Ask yourself these questions and keep track of your answers. You will notice these questions will provide clues in the types of locations and props for the engagement session.

  1. Do you like going to parties?
  2. What is your favorite book?
  3. Do you play any sports?
  4. Do you make people laugh? If so, how?
  5. Do you like the Sun?

Do you have the answers? If so, this is how I interpret the information and apply it to the Location scouting stage.

Do you like going to parties?

Yes = Busy environment full of life and energy (E.g. Outdoors, Day)

No = Quite, maybe an indoor location. (E.g. Indoors, Night)

What is your favorite book?

Romance Novel = A picnic or romantic dinner setting. . You get the idea

Non-Fiction = A financial institution or government building.

Fiction = a dreamy location that can be visually interpreted in many ways.

Do you play any sports?

Yes= Outdoor make sure the concept deals with action movement.

No = Outdoor but reserved movements.

Do you make people laugh? If so, how?

Yes, say or do something goofy = Goofy actions, lots of smiles in images.

No = Serious scenes. Designer ad type poses.

Do you like the Sun?

Yes= Outdoor a must

No= something indoor or outside with a lot of shade.

As you can see, the information gathered is pretty general but it provides you with an idea of where the concept is directed.

Look out for the next post about the Love Story dissection stage where you will be able to apply the general information you’ve picked up from the personality Identification stage to the Love Story dissection stage, which will allow you to formulate the perfect recipe for unique and special engagement pictures.

PHOTOGRAPHY MISSION STATEMENT: To create and capture carefully crafted conceptual imagery to provide unique and compelling photographs for clients. A LITTLE ABOUT ME: As a child, have you ever watched a commercial about a product that you’d do anything for and just couldn’t afford? An item that you desired so much that nothing else compared and nothing else could satisfy the want. A want so great that it warrants a person to save every months allowance to posses it. The feeling materialized many times through my life. From the Laser tag set with the gun, vest and sensor in my youth to a pair of Technics 1200s M3Ds with a Vestax PMC Pro mixer in my teens to a Peter Line Forum Brand Snowboard in my college years and to finally Two Nikon Cameras and thousands of dollars worth of lenses and too much gear to mention. As you can see, my interests grew in substance by age. Photography was the only hobby where I experienced the most gratification in the work produced. The many praises from my peers and clients for my creativity and skill in communicating the concept pushed me to the edge of pure satisfaction in my craft. The fulfillment I receive in creating compelling creative images in an editorial/Advertising campaign and/or capturing special moments on a wedding day compares to nothing else. So, I set aside my Laser Tag set, Dj gear and on a few occasions my snowboard for my passion in photography.
